Watch: MAGA-rioting GOP candidate storms off stage during debate

A Georgia Republican candidate who was convicted on charges related to storming the United States Capitol on January 6th, 2021 stormed out of a primary debate on Sunday.

As reported by the Atlanta Journal Constitution, congressional hopeful Chuck Hand walked off stage after he accused his Republican opponent, Wayne Johnson, of "orchestrating attacks on my wife."

In reality, Johnson did not lob attacks on Hand's wife during the debate.

Rather, his wife's past legal troubles were brought up by Michael Nixon, another former Republican rival who exited the race last month and endorsed Johnson.

As the AJC notes, Hand's wife Mandy "spent a year in jail and nine years in probation after she was convicted of a felony oxycodone charge" back in 2008.

Hand himself, of course, was convicted for illegally demonstrating inside the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, a crime for which he served 20 days in prison and six months of probation.

Johnson, for his part, seemed to believe that Hand had done himself no favors by walking out of their debate.

“I would like to assume that Chuck Hand’s departure, the way in which he did it today, was his withdrawal from the race,” Johnson told reporters after the debate, per the Associated Press. “But it certainly should cause people to pause and think about why he did it and what he was trying to get by doing it.”
