Kieran Trippier has named Mousa Dembele as the most skilful player that he has played with in his career, insisting that the former Tottenham Hotspur man did not get the plaudits he deserved.

While Dembele might not be revered as a Premier League legend by the larger footballing public, Spurs fans are certainly aware of how special a talent he was, as are all the players who shared a dressing room with him.

Kieran Trippier was impressed by Mousa Dembele’s skill

You only have to listen to how his former Tottenham and Belgium teammates talk about him to understand just how highly rated Dembele was by his peers.

Tottenham’s decline under Mauricio Pochettino began when the midfielder left the club back in 2019 to move to China, with the Lilywhites struggling to replace him.

Even today, many across the Premier League continue to name the former Spurs man as the toughest opponent that they have come up against (Philip Billing – Premier League’s YouTube channel) while Dele Alli said just a couple of months ago that the 36-year-old was the best player he has played with (Sky Sports MNF).

Mousa Dembele was vastly underrated by those outside of Spurs

Trippier, who has shared a dressing room with several world-class stars at Spurs, Atletico, Newcastle and England, did not hesitate to name Dembele as the best.

When asked who was the most skilful player that he had played with, the former Tottenham right-back said on The Overlap: “Mousa Dembele at Tottenham. He was a remarkable player, unbelievable. He was unbelievable, I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves, and unbelievable player.”

Dembele played a total of 249 games for Tottenham, scoring ten goals and providing ten assists (transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

While there have been many players in world football more influential than Dembele, in terms of raw talent and attributes, I do not think too many players come close to the Belgian as it is rare for such strength and size to be combined with such balance and quick feet.

Unfortunately, his injury issues proved to be a problem and he left the Premier League much earlier than he would have liked if his body was able to hold up the demands of the English top flight for a couple of more seasons.

Dembele’s talent deserved to see him grace the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, only for his departure to come before the new venue was complete; he certainly should be invited to the next legends game which is played in N17.
