The Sun have revealed that Manchester United are ready to challenge Tottenham Hotspur for the services of Eberechi Eze but it is explained that Spurs still hold the upper hand in the race for the Crystal Palace midfielder.

Eberechi Eze is attracting transfer interest

According to the report, the new regime in charge at Old Trafford want to make Eze their ‘marquee’ signing of the summer transfer window.

It is said that while Palace do not want to lose the 25-year-old this summer, the interest in his services are now growing, with United ready to challenge long-time admirers Spurs.

However, the outlet claims that the Red Devils would have to sell players before they can afford a deal for the England international, with the club also yet to make a decision on the future of manager Erik Ten Hag.

As a result, Tottenham are thought to be ‘in the box seat’ to land Eze this summer and he was even seen in box of his agency’s hospitality suite at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium towards the end of last season along with his friends and family.

Finally, The Sun make it clear that Spurs might be reluctant to spend a huge amount on the Eagles star as Ange Postecoglou also wants to strengthen in several other areas this summer.

This report comes a few days after TEAMtalk reported that Tottenham would be willing to shatter their transfer record and meet the release clause of £68m (including add-ons) in Eze’s Palace contract.

Eze had an impressive campaign for Palace last season, making 31 appearances across all competitions and scoring eleven goals while also providing six assists (transfermarkt).

Manchester United will not be Tottenham’s only challengers for Eze’s signature if the midfielder becomes available, with other top Premier League clubs also likely to enter the fray.

It does appear as if Spurs have done some groundwork on a potential deal already and have moved ahead of the competition.
