Bargain hunters were stunned when they spotted the Disney Pixar Buzz Lightyear on shelves at Home Bargains for just £2.99 – reduced from £16.99.

This means shoppers could save £14.99 – or around 80% by bagging the toy as part of the deal.

Several savvy shoppers have been overjoyed at the find taking to social media to show others.

Posting in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group, one said: “Wow, I remember how much these used to cost years ago.”

Another wrote: “Omg I need to find this toy!”

While a third cried: “I need one!”

The Buzz Lightyear toy is approximately five inches tall and has 12 movable toys to allow kid to recreate the character’s signature poses.

It is suitable for children aged four and above.

If you want to buy the toy at this price then you will have to be quick, as it has already sold out online.

It could be worth calling your local Home Bargains in advance to see if they have it in stock before you make the journey.

If you are unsure where your nearest Home Bargains is, you can put your postcode into the store locator tool on the retailer’s website.

As always, make sure you compare prices and shop around for the best deal.

You can do this using tools like Google Shopping, and keep an eye out for the latest deals on sites like HotUKDeals.

The Sun checked online to see if we could find the toy on sale elsewhere with a price tag that beat Home Bargains.

We couldn’t find the exact figure, but Argos is currently selling a Buzz Lightyear figure for £19 while the official Disney Store UK has one for £32.99.

Both of these toys were significantly pricier than the Home Bargains deal.

How to compare prices to get the best deal

JUST because something is on offer, or is part of a sale, it doesn't mean it's always a good deal.

There are plenty of comparison websites out there that’ll check prices for you – so don’t be left paying more than you have to.

Most of them work by comparing the prices across hundreds of retailers.

Here are some that we recommend:

  • Google Shopping is a tool that lets users search for and compare prices for products across the web. Simply type in keywords, or a product number, to bring up search results.
  • Price Spy logs the history of how much something costs from over 3,000 different retailers, including Argos, Amazon, eBay and the supermarkets. Once you select an individual product you can quickly compare which stores have the best price and which have it in stock.
  • Idealo is another website that lets you compare prices between retailers. All shoppers need to do is search for the item they need and the website will rank them from the cheapest to the most expensive one.
  • CamelCamelCamel only works on goods being sold on Amazon. To use it, type in the URL of the product you want to check the price of.
