Gunman attack bus in Kashmir, India, killing 10

Indian officials have announced that at least 10 people were killed and 33 others injured when armed assailants shot at a bus carrying pilgrims in Kashmir.

Al Jazeera, citing Indian officials, reported that the incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, June 9, in the Reasi district of Jammu, Kashmir.

According to the report, the bus, carrying 53 people, was returning from a popular Hindu shrine in the disputed region (Kandi Ponni) when it plunged into a deep gorge after the attack.

Mahita Sharma, the police chief of Reasi, stated that the rescue operation was completed, and the injured were transported to Narayana Hospital and the Reasi district hospital.

Officials said that investigations to identify the perpetrators of the attack have begun.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and stated that “those who carried out this terrorist attack will be punished soon.”

In a similar previous incident, a bus carrying pilgrims in Jammu was attacked by armed assailants.

The incident came after Narendra Modi took the oath of office as India’s Prime Minister for the third time. His swearing-in ceremony marked the beginning of another term in office, reflecting his continued leadership.

Dignitaries from various countries attended the event, which highlighted Modi’s significant influence and India’s importance on the global stage.
