Cristian Romero turned creator last night as Argentina edged out Ecuador 1-0 in a friendly ahead of the Copa America this summer, and it was a very clever assist indeed.

Romero is known for his fabulous range of passing and the occasional foray forward in a Tottenham shirt, and it appears that is no different for Argentina too.
With the South American side searching for an opener five minutes before half-time, Romero took it upon himself to make something happen. When he was picked out on the edge of the box, he dummied a left-footed shot to trick two defenders, then slid a tidy pass through for Angel Di Maria to finish.
Already a World Cup winner with Argentina, Romero will be looking to add another piece of silverware to his cabinet this summer at the Copa America.
The centre-back was one of Tottenham’s best players last season under Ange Postecoglou, and the vice-captaincy seems to have calmed down his tendency to fly off the rails at times.

Cristian Romero is a world-class centre-back. Tottenham haven’t always done him justice by building an equally strong team around him, but the back four is looking strong ahead of next season. Hopefully, Spurs can live up to his lofty trophy aims.
We have seen time and time again his confidence to push out of the Tottenham defence and try to join in with attacking phases of play.
Last season was definitely the best of his Tottenham career to date and actually scored more Premier League goals than any other defender in 2023/24 with five to his name.
