Water rescue underway in Emporia

Update 9:52 a.m.: At 7:42 a.m., the Emporia Fire Department responded to reports of a truck stuck in the water. First responders found a truck stuck with water up to its hood. A boat with four water rescue personnel was deployed. The water rescue team was able to help the driver to land. The driver didn't need any medical assistance, according to the Emporia Fire Department.

EMPORIA (KSNT) - The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is performing a water rescue in the southwest part of Emporia on Monday morning after a vehicle allegedly drove into flood water.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies were called at 7:36 a.m. to the 1600 block of G Road.

There are flood warnings in the area around G Road. The Cottonwood River is on a flood warning until Wednesday evening. At 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, the river was at 19.8 feet. The water could rise as much as 26.5 feet in certain areas of the river, according to the National Weather Service of Topeka.

"The river is expected to rise above flood stage late this evening to a crest of 25.5 feet early Wednesday morning," NOAA is reporting "It will then fall below flood stage Wednesday afternoon."
