Jill Biden Debuted a Chic Designer Gown in France That Showed Off Her Flair for Fashion

First Lady Dr. Jill Biden decided to make a chic fashion statement on Saturday at the state dinner for President Joe Biden in France. The custom gown created by the couture French design brand Schiaparelli showed just how confident she is to play with her style by veering away from her comfort zone which usually includes designers Ralph Lauren and Oscar de la Renta.

The gorgeous navy-blue gown was designed with velvet that fit the first lady to a tee. The off-the-shoulder silhouette elegantly draped her figure and a dramatic white sash cinched at her waist created the perfect accessory to show off her flair for fashion. Using the French fashion house with an American artistic director, Daniel Roseberry, was the perfect way to show off the diplomatic relations between the U.S. and France. Jill’s outfit also coordinated perfectly with France’s First Lady Brigitte Macron.

Brigitte wore a beautiful white Louis Vuitton gown with sheer long sleeves and button detailing along the left side of her body. The women looked unified in fashion and their friendship. The first ladies were seen laughing and holding hands while they toured the art exhibit at the Foundation Louis Vuitton in Paris. The display of warm friendship came on the heels of Brigitte trying to hold Queen Camilla’s hand at the D-Day anniversary events in Normandy last week.

After the first lady of France placed flowers at the base of the memorial, she reached back to grab the queen’s hand. Camilla awkwardly backed up to try and avoid Brigitte’s embrace and they quickly dropped hands. The Daily Mail called it a breach of “royal protocol,” but the internet critics were quick to point out Queen Camilla’s seemingly rude behavior. “France wanting to show unity and UK showing the cold shoulder. These Monarchs, honestly, they do nothing for the UK. Nothing,” wrote one user on X. Another account added, “Protocol sometimes gets in the way of humanity.”

There was nothing but genuine affection between Jill and Brigitte throughout the Bidens’ visit. Their fashions showed unity, but it was their body language that spoke the loudest of all.
