News and Notes for Monday, June 10th, 2024

Tyler Freeman hit a three-run home run and the Guardians beat the Marlins 6-3.

The Guardians struggled to find their footing against Trevor Rogers but had no trouble with the Marlins bullpen on Monday. Carlos Carrasco held the Marlins to two runs in four and two-thirds and then turned things over to a rested bullpen that lived up to their reputation with three and a third scoreless innings from Tim Herrin, Nick Sandlin, Sam Hentges and Hunter Gaddis, before Emmanuel Clase gave up a home run??? to Jake Burger.

Gabriel Arias hit a patented 108 mph 403 foot home run to right-center, early, and went back to being Gabriel Arias. Man, if he could just find a way to get to that tremendous power more often. Jose Ramirez was again at the center of things, doubling and getting an incredible read on a floating single off the bat of David Fry to score the tying run.

You should go vote for Jose, at the very least, and other Guardians as you see fit, as All-Star voting continues.

Zack Meisel has a story on David Fry, who also deserves your vote.

I hopped on Late Night Reds to discuss the upcoming Ohio Cup series with some great guys there.

JJ Wetherholt and Travis Bazzana are out of the NCAA Playoffs. Charlie Condon and Georgia will play a third and deciding game today to see if they get to stick around. Neither Wetherholt nor Bazzana did much. Jac Caglianone has been the most impressive of the top hitters in the small sample of the NCAA playoffs.

Gavin Williams threw 50 pitches in his latest rehab, on five days rest. Hopefully, he feels good as he bounces back. BECAUSE Ben Lively is undergoing tests. Sigh.

Around MLB:

The Royals lost and the Tigers and Twins won.
