Cristian Romero has spoken in glowing terms of Ange Postecoglou to the Argentine media, admitting that the Tottenham head coach has had a big impact on his game since arriving at the club last summer.
Romero was made joint vice-captain of Tottenham last season
It is fair to say that at the end of last season, there were a few question marks over Romero’s future as the defender had failed to deliver consistent displays for the Lilywhties and was part of an extremely leaky backline.
The 26-year-old’s body language last year did not suggest that he was particularly happy at the club and the centre-back himself admitted last summer that all was not well between him and Antonio Conte (Football.London).
However, Postecoglou made it clear as soon as he walked through the door last summer that Romero would be a key part of his plans, making him joint vice-captain alongside James Maddison.
The leadership responsibility has brought the best out of the former Atalanta star, who has formed a formidable partnership with Micky van de Ven and has finally found the sort of consistency and confidence that he shows in an Argentinean shirt.
Cristian Romero has a good relationship with Ange Postecoglou
Romero, who is now preparing to defend the Copa America trophy with the Albiceleste, has heaped praise on the Australian coach.
When asked about Postcoglou, the defender told Direct TV Sports: “The coach is a beautiful person. He gave me a nice responsibility at the beginning of the season, which is to be vice-captain. We have a nice relationship and I thank him for the words he has said and the impact he has had on me.”
Romero put in another impressive performance in the early hours of this morning when he provided a beautiful assist to Angel Di Maria in Argentina’s win over Ecuador.

It is clear that all the players at Tottenham, especially the senior stars, are enjoying working with Postecoglou and have full belief in the 58-year-old’s methods, despite the poor results towards the end of last season.
Romero was particularly impressive for Tottenham last season where he enjoyed the best form of his career in North London to date.
Tottenham need to be mindful that a player of Romero’s calibre is going to want to compete and win trophies; we have been here time and time again having lost top talent and now need to show ambition in the transfer market to retain our very best players beyond this season.
