Police activity has caused major delays on Interstate 205, with all lanes closed until further notice, causing long delays and requiring the use of an alternate route.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Authorities say a standoff involving a suspect in a stolen vehicle is causing major delays in both directions of Interstate 205 after officials closed all lanes to traffic Monday morning.

The backup at near mile post 30 and Exit 30 began on State Route 500 around 10:15 a.m. and will remain closed until further notice, according to the Washington Department of Transportation.

Authorities say the incident started in Portland, where the a tractor trailer was stolen and police pursued it, trying to use spikes.

The suspect then crossed the Columbia River into Washington, with the suspect hitting numerous cars while eluding police, according to authorities.

The suspect was then pulled over and is currently barricaded off of I-205, and the suspect is showing aggressive behavior, according to authorities.

"There's no estimate on when lanes will reopen," WSDOT said in a post on social media. "Expect long delays and use an alternate route."
