Austin Butler Responds to Rumors of Starring in 'Pirates of the Caribbean' Reboot

Austin Butler is opening up about the possibility of Pirates of the Caribbean in his future.

The 32-year-old The Bikeriders actor addressed the possibility of joining the franchise in an interview with ET.

Last month, rumors spread online that he would star in a reboot of the massively popular franchise for Disney around mid-May, when The DisInsider reported that after years of trying to work with the star, and even potentially considering him for the live-action Hercules, they want him for Pirates of the Caribbean.

“Oh really, I haven’t heard about that,” he said, adding, “I loved Pirates of the Caribbean.”

“That just reminded me of when I was a kid,” he continued. “In elementary school, we had to make these posters that had like your favorite music, your favorite actors. And at that time – I don’t know what grade, it must have been fourth grade, third grade or something – but it was – Pirates of the Caribbean was on there.”

“It’s a hard one to touch because they did it so well,” he went on to say. “I loved what Johnny [Depp] did with that.”

The last of the original Pirates of the Caribbean films, Dead Men Tell No Tales, was released in theaters in 2017.
