Suri Cruise Stands To Inherit Enviable Things From Mom Katie Holmes — But Doesn’t Seem to Care
Acting accomplishments aside, Katie Holmes is an absolute fashion icon. Because as much as we love Dawson’s Creek (a lot!), we may love her style even more (is that a criminal admission?). And so it’s no wonder that The Sunday Times wanted to talk to the A-lister about her closet that’s filled with laid-back and effortless streetwear. The outlet wanted to know if Holmes’ 18-year-old daughter Suri Cruise — who she shares with ex-husband Tom Cruise — can expect to inherit any pieces.
“I’ve saved some things here and there,” Holmes said, per People. “But she has her own sense of style and her own expressions.”
Which sounds about right. Suri does have her own very cool fashion sense, but that’s very teenager-y of her to [presumably] pass on some super enviable pieces because they were once worn by her mom. I would’ve felt the same way at her age — (“Wearing something from my mom’s closet?! How embarrassing!”) — but hopefully she realizes just how cool her mom’s clothes are in the coming years and can find ways to make them her own.
It’s actually surprising to hear Holmes muse that Suri won’t want her clothes given how often their styles seem to match up. We guess time will tell!
Holmes also shared the way that motherhood changed her fashion choices. And not just in the sense that she had to wear maternity clothes for a while.
“When my child was really small, I was drawn to wearing a lot of dresses,” she said. “You do go through these different phases of motherhood and they inform what you feel comfortable in and what you don’t. So over the years, my style has changed here and there.”
In 2018, Holmes shared with People a message that we bet she also shared with Suri about how personal style evolves.
“Take time to develop different parts of yourself, and your style will come,” she told the outlet. “Everything will come. It takes longer than you think. Just be good to yourself. Appreciate yourself instead of comparing yourself.”
Suri made headlines in April when she turned 18 and people started to speculate over whether her estranged father — the Top Gun star and leading figure in the Church of Scientology — would reach out and/or if Suri would speak out about her time within the Church. Though we don’t know if Suri heard from Cruise near or on the big day, experts believe he probably could have called given his high profile.
“If you are a regular church member you could be told to disconnect from your wife and daughter, but because Tom is a celebrity — he’s the top celebrity — he gets to ignore all this stuff,” Scientology reporter Tony Ortega previously said. “Your average member would be kicked out, but [the leader of Scientology] David Miscavige can’t do that with Tom.”
Maybe she got a call. She probably got a seat in a Scientology auditorium named after her. And who knows, maybe Cruise has also saved some pieces of clothing “here and there” for his daughter.
