As the expulsion of Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan continues, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations of Afghanistan has reported the expulsion of more than three thousand Afghan migrants from Pakistan and Iran.

The ministry announced Monday, June 10, in a press release that 2,774 Afghan migrants were expelled from Iran and 911 from Pakistan.

The Ministry of Refugees issued a press release stating that the returnees arrived in the country on June 9 and 10.

According to the press release, the migrants mentioned entered the country after being expelled through the borders of Islam Qala, Torkham, and Spin Boldak.

The expulsion of Afghan migrants from Pakistan occurs as the expulsion process from neighbouring countries, especially Iran and Pakistan, has significantly increased in recent months.

The returnees face a dire situation upon their arrival in Afghanistan, with a severe lack of basic amenities and facilities. The infrastructure to support the influx of returnees is inadequate, leading to overcrowded and under-resourced refugee camps. Many returnees are left without proper shelter, access to clean water or medical care.

The economic situation in Afghanistan further exacerbates the plight of returnees. With limited job opportunities and ongoing conflict, many returnees struggle to find means of livelihood. This economic instability often forces families into poverty, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation and worsening their already difficult circumstances.

Additionally, the lack of educational facilities for children among the returnees presents a long-term challenge. Many children are unable to attend school due to the banning of school beyond grade six for girls and a lack of resources, hindering their development and future prospects.

This lack of education not only affects the children but also poses a significant risk to the country’s future as it tries to rebuild and stabilize.
