Warren County hosts weather hazard public meeting

LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The Warren County Emergency Services Department will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, June 25, to discuss weather hazards and how to prepare for them. Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Office of Emergency Services staff will present information from the new Hazard Mitigation Plan, which handles local weather hazards like flooding, dam failures, earthquakes, and more.

The meeting will be held virtually on Zoom from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., and residents can register online. Everyone who registers will receive a link to the meeting on Monday, June 24.

The Hazard Mitigation Plan is a county guidance document that helps with planning, grant applications, and funding for other municipalities. The new plan was created with input from municipal officials, residents, the Office of Emergency Services, and the Soil and Water Conservation District and streamlines the process of helping communities recover from disasters.

Warren County Office of Emergency Services Director Ann Marie Mason said the public meeting is an excellent way for residents to learn how the county is ready for catastrophes. "The Hazard Mitigation Plan update goes into great detail in each community in Warren County, and it is an important document for residents and property owners to review to learn how their municipality has prepared for disasters," she said.
