Columbus Zoo and Aquarium holding summer blood drive

POWELL, Ohio (WCMH) - The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is teaming up with a local organization to help save lives.

The zoo is hosting its summer blood drive with Versiti Blood Center of Ohio on June 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the zoo's Africa Event Center. The drive allows anyone who can to come out and donate blood, while raising awareness about the need for donations.

According to the Columbus Zoo's social media page, anyone who donates blood will receive a BOGO voucher for a Zoombezi Bay ticket. The zoo held its last blood drive in March with Versiti, collecting 41 units from 34 donors which is saving up to 123 lives, according to the zoo. The zoo now has a goal to save at least 130 lives at the upcoming drive.

Along with the buy one, get one vouchers, anyone who gives blood will also enjoy free snacks following donation. Walk-ins are welcome for the drive, but you can also sign up for a specific spot as well. To claim your time to donate blood, click here.
