Heather Rae El Moussa Claps Back at Critics Who Say She Took Tarek Joke Too Far

Heather Rae El Moussa and her husband Tarek El Moussa are leaning into their upcoming HGTV series, The Flip Off, which just happens to co-star Tarek’s ex-wife, Christina Hall, and her husband, Josh Hall. The show plays up their tabloid feud through home renovations, but some fans think the El Moussas took their satire too far.

The renovation experts filmed an Instagram video that was introduced with the text, “When your husband tells you we’re filming a show with his ex wife.” The clip shows Heather pretending to place a garbage bag over Tarek and then exiting the house to take out the trash. The caption read, “Stepping into drama, while taking out the trash.” The 36-year-old reality star is then seen flinging the bag into the garbage bin while JoJo’s song “Get Out Right Now,” plays over the video.

While the comments have now been deleted, Entertainment Tonight captured how Heather reacted after some followers didn’t love the tone of the video. She clapped back in the comments, “Take a break. Calm yourself. My husband is in on the joke. And don’t forget I came from a world famous show [Selling Sunset] myself on a network called Netflix and my husband and I are creating our new shows together.” Tarek also defended the video when one user claimed the clip felt too close to a true crime story, describing it as “very violent.” He chimed in, “In this case it’s a husband and a wife playing.”

The El Moussas are about to jump back into the fire with their HGTV show because it plays into the family feud between Tarek’s ex Christina and husband Josh. Heather said on The Tamron Hall Show recently that “everyone is in such a good place and we’re here to give you guys a great show and we’re really excited about it.” It wasn’t always that way after heavily-covered arguments on the soccer field showed off how challenging blended families can be. However, Tarek wants his fans to know that they’ve all grown so much over the past few years.

“As time goes on, you start to think and you start to realize things, right?” he shared. “And what I realized is this: I couldn’t imagine growing up in a family where my parents were divorced and they hated each other because I love my mom, I love my dad. They are divorced, but they still get together, and we do family dinners. And the truth is, let the past be the past.” Let’s hope their new show shows off the best of the El Moussa and Hall families’ playful rivalry and ends the dark side of their firmer rift.
