Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s time at Tottenham appears to be coming to an end, and he may even reunite with a former manager, as Jose Mourinho is keen to bring him to Fenerbahce.

Hojbjerg was Mourinho’s first signing during his time as Spurs boss

The Danish midfielder was actually signed by Mourinho back in 2020 and has gone on to rack up 184 appearances for the Lilywhites since (Transfermarkt).

Hojbjerg has found himself falling down the pecking order at Tottenham since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou, though, with the likes of Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma now ahead of him in central midfield.

The 28-year-old has already been linked with a move to Napoli (Corriere dello Sport) and Atletico Madrid (AS) this summer. It is thought Spurs will want around £25m for Hojbjerg (Paul O’Keefe).

According to a report from Sabah, Mourinho is eager to make Hojbjerg his first signing at Fenerbahce.

Fenerbahce are starting discussions for Hojbjerg

Now, more reports out of Turkey suggest that move could be heading in the right direction. First up, Ajansspor state Mourinho has instructed his new club to bring Hojbjerg in this summer, with a belief the player’s experience can benefit the team.

In addition, a report from Karar claims things are really moving forward quickly, as Fenerbahce board member Acun Ilicali has already travelled to London and has “started official contacts” with Tottenham to get the deal completed.

It seems Fenerbahce are very serious about the transfer and have “mobilised all means” to fulfil Mourinho’s wishes.

Hojbjerg made the Tottenham starting eleven on just eight occasions in the Premier League last season and was brought off the bench 28 times (transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

I’m sure Hojbjerg would flourish in Turkey, and the physical elements of the game there would certainly suit his temperament, too.

However, I do think he’s capable of playing at a higher level still, and he may prefer the attention of Napoli or Atletico Madrid right now. Still, you can’t underestimate the pull of Jose Mourinho.
