LAWRENCE, KS. (WCIA) -- A verdict has been reached in Terrence Shannon Jr.'s criminal rape trial.

After approximately 90 minutes of deliberation, Judge Amy Hanley read the jury found Terrence Shannon Jr. not guilty of rape and not guilty of aggravated sexual battery.

The Douglas County District Attorney's office issued the following statement to WCIA following the verdict:

"It takes tremendous courage for a survivor of sexual assault to come forward. We will continue to pursue justice on behalf of survivors."

Tricia Bath and Mark Sutter, Shannon's attorneys during the trial, believe many people should say sorry to their client.

"As we stated in September '23, we emphatically denied these charges and waited for our day in court." Bath and Sutter said in a joint statement. "That time has come, the jury has spoken, and justice was served. The public at large owes Terrence Shannon Jr. an apology."

Terrence Shannon Jr. shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) after being found not guilty a video of him training and playing with the caption of AGTG, meaning "All Glory to God".

Shannon is now projected as high as a first-round pick in the NBA draft later this month.
