I live in a static caravan – the rent costs me just £333 a month and I only have to follow two rules to make it legal
A WOMAN who pays £333/month to live in a static caravan has revealed the key rules she needs to follow to make it legal.
The mum, only known as @thecaravanmum, took to TikTok to spill the beans about this ”unconventional” way of living, after she was ”sick to death of people telling” her ”that it’s not possible”.
As explained in her video, living in a static caravan on a holiday site was not residential, meaning you don’t have a post box on the front door ”where everything is registered to”.
”In fact, nothing at all is registered at this site – because it is a holiday site,” noted the parent who’d been living this way for around a year at the time of filming.
In order to be able to live this way of life, the parent said you needed a separate registered address, which has to be a property of your own, whether it’s bought, on mortgage or you rent it.
”Or if it’s not yours, it needs to be a family member who you can register at or a friend who you can register at as well.”
Another key thing to remember, she added, was that holiday sites are generally not open for the full year, with her site being open for 10.5 months.
When the site does eventually shut for a time period, the savvy mum said it doesn’t matter if you go back to your registered address – as long as you are off the site, they don’t care.
This means you can either go back, go travelling – or ”do whatever the hell you want to do” as a ”nomad”.
The yearly rent, she revealed in the comments, comes to £3,500 for a 10.5 month season, which works around £333 per month.
While you are on the site – unless it’s written in the site rules, which can be the case for some places – ”there is no longevity on how long you can stay here”.
This, she explained, is because ”there is no legal definition on how long a holiday is for”.
In the clip, the woman also shared some information about regulations on going off the site to work and going to school.
If you live in a site that’s in the same area you’re registered in, ”then it’s actually no problem at all”.
The holiday site, which is located around 100 miles away from her registered area, also has access to the family’s bills to ensure they do have a registered residential address.
”It is completely possible for you to live your lifestyle in a way where you spend the majority of your living time in your static caravan.
”But to be able to do that, you will also need to be able to work unconventionally – or have a lot of savings or money that will allow you to live this life without having to work.”
Asked if the coupled worked, the mum said the duo ran a business, whilst also home-educating her children.
The video clearly inspired many, as hundreds flocked to comments to share their thoughts.
One person said: ”This is how we have been living for the last 3 years. We have to be off park 2 weeks a year.”
Another chimed in: ”My parents have lived in a static caravan in Tickhill, Doncaster. they lived there for at least 20 years.”
”I would do it no problem,” someone else penned.
