EGI Women and Sagicor Life join celebrations for Blood Donor Day

Give generously is the plea of senior blood collecting technician Wendy Lorde. She was speaking  at the National Blood Collection Centre, Jemmotts Lane, in celebration of Blood Donor Day.

EGI Women in association with Sagicor Life combined with the National Blood Collection Centre in a promotion of health and wellness.

Amongst those present for the event was blood ambassador Ricky Wilson who brought up his milestone donation of 132 units of blood.

Lorde encouraged Barbadians to donate blood as often as they safely could because by doing so they can help their own relatives in cases of emergency.

“We are so glad to have EGI Women and Sagicor Life on board for our celebration of Blood Donor Day,” Lorde said. “So far the response has been tremendous. We are working very hard but we are grateful for the blood that Barbadians are donating. It isn’t just about the blood but to know that Barbadians are interested in looking out for each other and ensuring that blood is there (in the banks) which means we can save lives.”

“You can come out and donate (blood) at any time. Do not wait until your relatives are ill to come out.”

Lorde believes that there is still an unwillingness to donate blood in Barbados due to fear but has reassured locals that the process is much smoother than one believes.

“It only takes about fifteen minutes of your time and you can save three lives with one donation.”
