Mariners Game #72 Preview: TEX at SEA
The division-rival Rangers come to town for a huge three-game set
If you think the Mariners are resting on their laurels after taking three of four from the miserable White Sox, think again. Reporters walked into the clubhouse today to the smell of burning sage, courtesy of J.P. Crawford—his attempt to clear out the bad-bat vibes. But it’s not serious intensity around the club, either:

Dominic Canzone came into the clubhouse, smelled the smoke from the sage, and launched into a surprisingly spot-on Beavis impression: “fire, fire, fire. Heh-heh.”
And also:
Julio’s been inserting himself into the first base drills all week but today actually got down on his knees to do the bucket drill with Perry Hill (not shown). Julio offered to switch spots with Ty France, who responded by taking Julio’s glove and chucking it back towards the OF pic.twitter.com/KvD2Bc63Hk

Hopefully the good (weird) vibes can continue into tonight’s game.
Lineups:
The Mariners will likely see a lot more fastballs tonight, although of a very different variety than the smoke coming out of Garrett Crochet’s hand, as old friend Andrew Heaney is on the mound for Texas.

A lefty starter for Texas means Rojas and Raley both sit to begin the game.

News:
As expected, RHP Emerson Hancock was optioned back to Triple-A Tacoma following yesterday’s game. In his place the Mariners have recalled RHP Cody Bolton, who was very strong during his time in Tacoma, making eight appearances (7.2 innings) and not allowing a run to score while striking out six and issuing just one intentional walk.
If you spent a lot of time learning the difference between Matt Bowman and Mike Baumann, consider that brainspace freed back up.
Roster move: RHP Matt Bowman has cleared waivers and elected free agency.
