Search for missing fisherman called off for the day

The search for a missing fisherman was called off Friday evening with no sign of the man.

TRIBES HILL, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The search for a missing fisherman was called off Friday evening with no sign of the man. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office called off the search around 6 p.m.

The 31-year-old man was first reported missing at Lock 12 of the Mohawk River around 11:35 a.m. Thursday. Multiple different agencies, including the New York State Police, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, and the Fulton County Sheriff's Office spent the day searching for the man.

Officials said this is not the first time something like this has happened in the area.

"Unfortunately, there has been incidents where there this has happened before all throughout the river," Montgomery County Sheriff Jeff Smith said. "It's a populated area. It's a popular fishing location. There's people there, you know, all hours of the day and night. And it's been a couple years since the last one, but it certainly has happened before."

Officials said they will keep searching until the victim is located.
