Pakistani politician Fazl-ur-Rehman laments undermined efforts to improve Afghanistan relations

Fazl-ur-Rehman, head of Pakistan’s Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) party, stated that he worked to improve relations between Kabul and Islamabad, but these efforts are now being undermined.

He warned that worsening relations with Afghanistan are not in Pakistan’s best interest.

“I made efforts to improve Afghanistan-Pakistan relations and confidently say that we succeeded in opening cooperation between the two countries. Now these efforts are being undone. For whose benefit? Certainly not for Pakistan,” he said in a press conference.

Fazl-ur-Rehman visited Kabul in January and met with the Taliban officials, urging both governments to resolve their issues diplomatically.

Recently, Pakistan has been forcibly deporting Afghan refugees, despite the dire situation in Afghanistan. This has caused significant concern due to the unstable conditions in Afghanistan.

Additionally, there has been an increase in militant attacks on Pakistani security forces, which has heightened tensions between the two countries.

Moreover, there are allegations that the Taliban are supporting the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), further complicating the relationship and escalating security concerns in the region.

Islamabad claims that attacks in Pakistan are planned in Afghanistan, but the Taliban officials denies responsibility, stating it is not accountable for Pakistan’s security failures.
