Jeffrey Odle just wants to see his son’s body.

Last Sunday while he was at church, he received the news that his son Kemo Grant was dead.

He quickly called Kemo’s sister Kim, only to hear her breaking down and crying, unable to hold a conversation. He left church at Richmond Gap, St Michael and went home to Grazettes Main Road, St Michael.

Odle charges that since then, no one from the immediate family has been able to see the body.

“Up to now I ain’t see my son’s body yet and people went to view my son’s body and I didn’t see my son’s body yet. They tell we come Monday at 9 o’clock to the morgue. We went Monday to the morgue, they said he gone to get swabbed. And I still didn’t see my son yet up to this present moment,” Odle said.

According to Commissioner of Police Richard Boyce earlier this week, Grant, 29 “was alert up to 06:50 hours” during checks at Central Police Station. A media release also said around 7:35 a.m. during regulation prisoners’ cell checks, his body was found motionless. An ambulance was summoned but none was available and a medical doctor who was called to the scene, pronounced Grant dead.

In that same release, it was disclosed that his body was identified by a family member.

Odle said he knows who had seen the body, but stressed it was none of the close relatives. He said he saw Grant on Saturday evening, the latter gave him some money and they were planning to meet again during the day to celebrate his mother’s birthday. That was the last time he saw him. He said he was told his son was picked up by the police that same night.

Boyce announced earlier this week that a senior officer was appointed to conduct an investigation into the death, which was now being treated as unnatural.

When contacted Thursday, the Commissioner, who was in a meeting, refuted claims that no one from the immediate family had seen the body. In a very brief call, he stated “that would be discussed [on Friday]” and later disclosed there would be a media conference.
