Honeymooner Forced to Wear Sandals Gear Due to Lost Luggage

Fortunately, the newlyweds had a good sense of humor about it.

While there's never an ideal time for an airline to lose your luggage, en route to a remote resort for your honeymoon probably ranks up there with the worst. But that was unfortunately the case for a newly married couple, who showed up at their tropical destination with the groom's bag nowhere to be found. As a result, he had to spend the first several days of their trip decked out in Sandals attire.

Singer-songwriter Bailey, 30, and her husband Shane, 32, from Dallas, TX had planned an eight-day honeymoon at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian Resort in the Caribbean. However, when they reached their destination, only Bailey's luggage had arrived with Shane's nowhere to be found.

Thankfully, they were able to make light of the situation, documenting it on TikTok where their ordeal went viral. In a June 4 post, Bailey posted a short clip of her new husband wearing a Sandals branded polo shirt and matching hat, writing: "When Delta loses your suitcase on your honeymoon and you have to wear all Sandals gear."

The pinned post has since amassed over three million views. In another post, Bailey captured Shane standing on the balcony of their fancy suite, looking very much the picture of a Sandals employee. "We are really feeling the love, Delta," she quipped.

Speaking with the Daily Mail in an interview after they arrived home, Bailey explained that they were able to make light of the otherwise unideal situation.

"It felt like I was walking around with a hotel employee when he had his hotel merch on," she recalled. "It was hilarious. We were laughing the whole time. He was walking through the whole resort in his gear and I felt like he was getting some funny looks. No one thought that he was actually working there but I felt like he looked like an employee."

"Shane had brought all of his best clothes—all of his medication, contact lenses, toiletries and his underwear. All the stuff he needed to survive on the island he didn't have," the newlywed continued. "Luckily, the hotel gave us some merch to get by. They gave Shane toiletries and his outfit. He was given the Sandals polo top and then he bought the hat himself."

She noted that the one thing the shop didn't have was underwear, so Shane had to go commando for several days until his luggage was returned.

"There was only one shop at the resort and it didn't sell it so he had to go without underwear," she admitted. "That was a kicker. He had to buy swim shorts so he could wear them but had no underwear."

The couple tried not to let the missing bag ruin their trip and "struggled" to not think about it. Though, they didn't know what they were going to do for eight days as many of their planned activities, such as hiking, required gear that he had packed in his bag. "It definitely put our honeymoon on hold for three days," Bailey lamented.

And while Shane did his best to maintain a sense of humor about his missing luggage, he was also concerned he'd never be reunited with his belongings, which he valued at around $4,000.

"When I get back from my honeymoon, I am going straight on a work trip, so I was thinking about whether I would have clothes," he recalled. "I didn't think I'd ever see the bag again and that was a big concern at that point."

Finally, after three days, and with help with her mother-in-law, Bailey said that Shane was finally reunited with his luggage. They believe that Delta never put his luggage on the plane in the first place, and it was eventually located in Dallas, where they had departed from.

"We think Delta were the ones responsible for losing the bag," she explained. "When we got into Saint Lucia, we had no idea what was going on, so we were just going back and forth with the airport customs for hours. We didn't end up getting to the resort until later that night so we missed out on our whole first day."

Though they have yet to lodge an official complaint, Delta Airlines apologized to the couple in a statement, and pledge to make it up to them. "Delta teams are looking into what occurred, and stand ready to contact them to make this right," the airline said. "We are sorry to hear of this disruption to their honeymoon plans."

At the very least, hopefully they'll be compensated for all of the resort gear they had to purchase, but in the meantime it's certainly a honeymoon story for the grandkids.
