EU moves to hike tariffs on Chinese EV imports, escalating trade spat

BRUSSELS, Belgium: The European Union (EU) has announced plans to increase tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs), intensifying a trade dispute over Beijing's subsidies that the EU claims are harming its domestic automakers.

The European Commission, the EU's executive body, stated on June 12 that it will impose provisional tariffs, raising duties on Chinese EVs to as much as 38 percent from the current 10 pe
