APD: SWAT responds to suspect with gun in Mueller construction site

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A SWAT situation is ongoing in the Mueller neighborhood after a suspect with a firearm refused to leave a construction site, police said. People are asked to avoid the area.

At 6:52 a.m. Saturday, 911 received a call about a possible disturbance inside an apartment at 2604 Aldrich Street, police said. APD officers talked to a resident and said the other person involved left from the window inside the apartment.

APD said the suspect is in a nearby construction site with a firearm. Police described the suspect as a Black man in his 30s and has multiple outstanding violent felony warrants.

Police said the SWAT team, negotiators and other specialized units responded to help patrol officers because the suspect was armed and had several warrants.

As of 10:50 a.m., the situation is active and ongoing.
