Crystal Palace make Eze stance clear amid Tottenham approach – Insider reports
Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe has revealed that Crystal Palace have made it clear that Spurs would have to meet Ebeerchi Eze’s release clause if they wish to land the attacking midfielder this summer.
Tottenham want Eberechi Eze
Eze is currently with the England squad at the Euros, preparing for their tournament opener against Serbia but speculation over the Palace star’s future continues to intensify back home.
Multiple outlets over the past week have suggested that Tottenham and Manchester United are set to battle it out for the 25-year-old’s signature, with the Lilywhites thought to be favourites to land the player (The Sun).
It was previously reported by The Daily Mail that the release clause in Eze’s contract is worth £68m including add-ons.
Crystal Palace make their stance clear on Eze
O’Keefe has now failed to put a specific number on it, simply stating instead that the fee in total could exceed £60m.
He also pointed out that release clauses such as this are often quite complicated and that triggering them is just the first step in trying to hammer out a deal.
O’Keefe tweeted: ‘Understand Crystal Palace’ current stance on Eberechi Eze is that any club will need to be prepared to pay a considerable amount of the fee up-front. A fee that in total could exceed £60m.
‘On release clauses. Worth noting that ‘triggering’ the amount only gains you permission to speak to the player. The specific details can vary such as X amount initial payment, whereas others might have a specific value. They can often be poorly drafted and open to interpretation.’
Spurs Web Opinion
If Eze is Ange Postecoglou’s top summer target, then Tottenham should not hesitate to pay £60m for the England international.
Based on most accounts, it does appear as if the midfielder is willing to make the move across London to N17.
