Gamethread: White Sox at Diamondbacks
Erick Fedde looks to build on his strong season with another quality start
The White Sox (18-53) are looking to recover from last night’s loss to the Diamondbacks (34-36). Entering tonight, the South Siders are 3-7 in their last 10 games, while Arizona is 6-4 in their last 10.
Erick Fedde is set to start on the mound for the White Sox. Fedde, 31, enters this game with a 3.10 ERA and a 3.61 FIP in 81 1⁄3 innings, and he has accumulated 1.7 fWAR this season. This has been a great comeback season for Fedde, who had struggled in the majors from 2017-22 before dominating in the KBO in 2023. Fedde has been one of the few pleasant surprises for the White Sox this season, and he will look to shut down Arizona tonight.
Scott McGough, 34, is a right-handed pitcher who is off to a slow start. McGough enters this game with a 5.85 ERA and a 5.49 FIP, rendering him a -0.3-fWAR pitcher in 20 innings this year. McGough is primarily a reliever who will make his second start of the season tonight. McGough pitched four seasons in Japan, where he had a 2.94 ERA, but he has only pitched 97 innings in the majors.
