Thrill-seekers were stranded 236ft as chaos unfolded and they desperately waited to be rescued.

Hyperia only opened in May and has suffered a series of breakdowns since.

After just one day of operations on May 24, it was forced to close for two weeks.

The ride reopened on Wednesday before coming to a standstill on Saturday.

Theme Park giant Thorpe Park said riders were “communicated to throughout” the shutdown and these types of “stoppages are perfectly normal”.

A spokesperson said: “Hyperia experienced a short delay in operation today.

“Guests were held on the lift hill for approximately one hour before the ride was restarted and the train was brought back into the ride station.

“Stoppages are perfectly normal and commonly experienced in theme parks everywhere.

“At no stage was there any safety concerns for guests. “
