Serbia vs England preview
All eyes will be on the Veltins-Arena as tournament favourites England open their Euro 2024 campaign against FIFA’s 33rd-ranked side Serbia.
When the fixtures were first announced, many were predicting a comfortable win for the Three Lions to get their Group C campaign off to a flyer.
And though they remain odds-on to clinch three points in Gelsenkirchen, it’s no longer a foregone conclusion.
Gareth Southgate has a few selection headaches on who will partner Declan Rice in midfield, while England’s most experienced central defender John Stones was quarantined in his bedroom on Wednesday with a sickness bug.
Stones’ potential absence would be a blow for Southgate, who is already without injured Harry Maguire and recovering Luke Shaw. It could mean that Lewis Dunk will compete with Ezri Konsa for a place in the starting XI.

England will also have to bounce back from their dismal 1-0 defeat to Iceland at Wembley last Friday.
Serbia, meanwhile, are a little trickier to predict. They’ve won three, lost three and drawn once in their last seven outings – including a 3-0 win over Sweden in Solna.
Dragan Stojkovic’s side do have several familiar faces in their squad and a good amount of quality in the likes of Dusan Tadic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dusan Vlahovic.
They are heavily reliant on crosses to their tall forwards with 33% of their goals in qualification coming from headers – which is the highest ratio amongst any team to have reached the finals in Germany.

Caution
Well, he’s favourite to receive a caution for a reason.
RB Salzburg centre-back Strahinja Pavlovic is never very far away from the referee’s notebook. The 23-year-old has collected 13 cards in 37 appearances this season, including five in his last nine in all competitions.
He’s also got a fairly prolific record for Serbia with 13 yellows in 35 caps, which averages out to a caution every 2.6 games.
Pavlovic will either play on the left of a back three, and will likely have to deal with Arsenal’s rapid Bukayo Saka all evening.

Assist
Phil Foden has lit up the Premier League this season with his performances for Manchester City, bagging 12 assists in 53 appearances.
However, I’m predicting that Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham will get the nod in the central attacking role with Foden operating on the left.
The 20-year-old has actually provided more assists in less appearances than Foden, registering 13 in 42 matches – including the recent Champions League final.
Bellingham has served up three assists in his last five starts for England, and he’s available at 9/2 for provide one against Serbia – a bigger price than Foden at 3/1.

One special on the William Hill website did catch my eye, and it’s very much in line with the tip above.
The bookies are offering odds of 3/1 for Harry Kane to score a goal assisted by either Jude Bellingham or Phil Foden.
As mentioned, the pair provided a combined 25 assists in 95 matches for their clubs last season, and have 13 at international level for England.
If England are going to score, and there’s a good chance of at least a couple, it’s more than likely that one of those two will provide the crucial assist. And it’s also more than likely that Bayern Munich talisman Harry Kane will convert.
England’s captain relishes the big tournaments and has an outrageous record of 63 goals in 91 games for England.
