Report: Spurs and Borussia Dortmund are fighting for Championship starlet
Tottenham Hotspur have been cited as one of the key clubs chasing Leeds United teenager Archie Gray this summer, but they will face competition from Borussia Dortmund.
Tottenham and Dortmund both like Archie Gray
Gray, who has featured at centre midfield and right-back for Leeds last season, played 52 games across all competitions as the Yorkshire side made it to the Championship play-off final (Transfermarkt).
The 18-year-old has enjoyed a real breakthrough season at his boyhood club, and has attracted a fair amount of attention from top clubs as a result.
According to Football Insider, Spurs have shown ‘concrete interest’ in the youngster and would be keen to capitalise on the fact Leeds failed to win promotion by taking Gray off their hands.
However, it has previously been suggested that Spurs are just one of many Premier League clubs circling the teenager, with Liverpool mooted as a potential suitor (Football Insider).
Will Archie Gray leave Leeds this summer?
Now, the latest on the situation comes from The Athletic, who report that Leeds are now in a position where they will need to sell at least one valuable asset this summer to appease Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), with Gray mentioned as a potential sacrifice.
The article claims Tottenham Hotspur and German side, Borussia Dortmund, are the two main clubs “taking a look” at Gray right now.
It is said a “big fee” would be needed to sign him, but that the “pure profit” any transfer would present makes it a very viable option for Leeds to cash in.
Spurs Web Opinion
I’m a big fan of Archie Gray, and I think he would be an excellent signing for Spurs.
I do think his best position is in the middle of the park, but the fact he can cover at right-back could see him get some first-team football for us in the coming season, too.
