German media reported that Hamburg police shot a “man with an axe” near a gathering of Dutch fans at the Euro matches on Saturday, June 15.

Reports indicated that four loud shots were heard near the gathering of Dutch team supporters.

The Netherlands played against Poland in the Euro matches on Saturday in Hamburg.

The German newspaper Bild reported that around 40,000 Dutch fans were participating in a peaceful march when a man with a golden-coloured axe attacked police and the public.

Riot police then entered the area and cordoned it off. According to Bild, the police attempted to disarm the attacker with pepper spray before an officer fired a missed shot.

The report stated that the police then shot the man with the axe, and he fell to the ground. Not much information has been released about the identity of the man.
