The government of Oman has announced that, following requests from the governments of Iran and Sweden for mediation in the matter of prisoners held in the two countries, Oman’s efforts have led to an agreement for the exchange of prisoners.

According to Oman’s official news agency, prisoners from both sides were transferred from Tehran and Stockholm to Muscat on Saturday, June 15, to complete the necessary procedures for their return to their respective countries.

Nouri, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in Sweden for participating in the execution of political prisoners in the 1980s, was among those exchanged.

An Iranian judiciary official wrote on the social media platform X on Saturday, June 15, that Hamid Nouri had been released and would arrive in Iran within hours.

Ulf Kristersson, the Prime Minister of Sweden, confirmed the news of the prisoner exchange between his country and the Islamic Republic of Iran, announcing that Johan Flodérus and Saeed Azizi, who were imprisoned in Iran, were on their way back to Sweden.
