Report: Aston Villa may have received a boost over Spurs in Conor Gallagher race

Aston Villa are keen to sign players from Chelsea this summer, including Conor Gallagher and Ian Maatsen, but they will only do business with the Blues if Jhon Duran heads to Stamford Bridge.

Spurs and Aston Villa both want Conor Gallagher

Tottenham have been linked with Gallagher for the best part of a year now, as Ange Postecoglou looks to improve his midfield options.

Chelsea are expected to need to raise money through a big transfer before the end of June or risk breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), and any sale of Gallagher would present pure profit for the Blues.

However, despite having just one year left on his current contract, Gallagher himself has made it clear he would like to stay at Chelsea, and insists he is excited to work with his new manager, Enzo Maresca (Fabrizio Romano).

Still, it is thought Aston Villa could hold an advantage when it comes to signing Gallagher, and it’s all down to Chelsea’s interest in their striker, Jhon Duran (Guardian).

Duran deal could start a domino effect this summer

The latest on that situation comes from The Telegraph, with a suggestion that the Duran deal needs to go ahead if Villa are to do business with Chelsea in the other direction.

The report claims Villa “will only sign players from Chelsea” during the upcoming transfer window on the basis of Chelsea completing a £40m move for Duran.

It is thought the deal has been “broadly agreed” between the two clubs, with Chelsea now just needing to assess Duran’s mindset and agree on a big contract for the striker.

It remains to be seen whether the confirmation of that deal could then spark Villa into action for the signing of Gallagher.

I reckon this puts Villa one step closer to signing Gallagher, to be honest. I can’t see us getting the jump on them now, and I would assume the Duran deal will be sorted out fairly soon, which will then lead to Villa bagging Gallagher shortly after.
