The “self-contained” studio on Carholme Road boasts a kitchen, a bedroom and a shower all within 172 square foot area.

The only catch is that you’d have to share the toilet with the other residents of the building.

The flat comes “fully furnished” with a single bed, mirror, electric hob, fridge and a small cupboard for storage.

The studio even has its own shower which sits just inches away from the kitchen stove.

But the only thing separating the kitchen from the bedroom space is an oppressive room divider which drew comparisons to an episode of Are You Being Served.

In the classic 70s British sitcom, Mrs Slocombe temporarily lived on an empty shop floor which was similarly screened off.

The compact apartment has been advertised on the market for £475 a month without bills.

But it is conveniently placed just walking distance away from the city centre with its vibrant scene full of bars and restaurants.

The Rightmove listing reads: “Available to rent is this fully furnished and self-contained second-floor studio flat.

“It features a kitchen area with a cooker and fridge with a freezer compartment, a single bed, and a shower with a shared WC. It also offers an on-site laundry facility.

“This property is conveniently located on Carholme Road, just a short walk from the City Centre and close to the bars and restaurants on the Brayford.

“Rent excludes the tenancy deposit and any other permitted payments.

“A Holding Deposit of £121.15, based on the advertised rent, is required to reserve this property.”

The listing has gone viral on Reddit with users having mixed opinions on the property.

Tiny studio flat listed for eye-watering £800 a month is so small you’ll sleep next to OVEN

A CENTRAL London flat costing £800 a month is so small that the bed is within touching distance of the kitchen.

Located near High Street Kensington, the flat is described as “amazing value for money” despite costing nearly £1000 a month in rent.

Prospective renters will have to sleep a stone’s throw from the sink and oven while sharing a bathroom with a stranger in the cramped abode.

Lettings agent Interlet are advertising the flat on popular property websites such as Rightmove.

The furnished property is available with bills included for £997 a month in London’s priciest borough.

According to estate agents Foxtons, the average studio in Kensington costs £1,400 to rent and £455,000 to buy,

The miniscule flat comes with a microwave, fridge-freezer and oven.

For all the sizing concerns it is in a desirable location, just 0.1 miles away from High Street Kensington Tube station, which will attract a high price.

But it is so small there is not enough space for a bathroom so tenants would need to share communal toilets and showers.

A Rightmove listing says: “The flat is situated on the second floor and is a two-minute walk from the Tube station and offers amazing value for money.

“It benefits from a smart kitchenette fitted with necessary appliances. The storage is excellent and the room itself is filled with natural light.

“It has a beautiful bathroom to share and also has four additional [toilets] and two additional showers in the building.

“The building also offers a communal washing machine and a separate dryer. The property is situated just a stone’s throw away from Kensington Gardens, while Holland Park is also within easy reach.”

A local politician has said it is an outrage it costs so much before admitting that despite this there will probably be a long queue to snap it up.

Labour councillor Emma Dent Coad said: “This ‘flat’ is in essence a small bedroom with a sink and microwave. There is no loo, no shower or anywhere to wash clothes. To pay £200 a week for such a minimal space is an outrage.

“However, due to the current housing market there will be probably be a very long queue to take it! A sign of the times and a very sorry story indeed.”

One user was almost angry at the advertisement and wrote: “This isn’t a studio, it’s a bedsit. I’ll never fathom how someone looks at that space and decides it’s not only ok to house a person in there but to charge them for the privilege.”

Another one agreed, saying: “This is possibly the most depressing thing I’ve seen on this sub. You’d probably have a nicer room if you went to prison.”

A third person added: “To be fair, I’ve seen prison cells nicer than this in some countries.”

“Reminds me of the old episode of Are You Being Served when Mrs Slocombe temporarily lived on an empty floor of the store and they made a house for her with walls like that separating the spaces,” someone else added.

But others have mentioned that with the current rent crisis, the offer might be a bargain, especially for someone in a desperate situation.

One person pointed out: “It’s less than £500 a month bills included though. You’d struggle to get a room for that in most areas.”

Another user wrote: “Better than a tent on the street. Bedsits were much worse in the 60s and 70s!”

A third person added: “A lot of these are for weekday renters that commute. Maybe university professors, or managers of major building works.

“This is akin to what we have in military life, and is all you need to live in the week.”

An average rent for a one bedroom apartment in Lincoln has reached a staggering £804 a month, according to Home.co.uk.

Meanwhile, the Office of National statistics has recorded that the rent prices in England have soared by almost nine per cent to a £1,278 on average.

The Sun has reached out to Rightmove for comment.
