Reddit user Skye_b666 admitted in a post that she went through a traumatic event in both 2018 and again in 2022 that led to “massive shedding.”

She explained that her general practitioner first told her she was iron deficient around this time due to her “crappy” diet.

As a result, she had blood tests done for iron, vitamin D, and thyroid, and they all showed that she wasn’t low in anything.

She realized that it was purely post-traumatic hair loss.

The Redditor revealed the healthy buys and hair tricks she implemented into her lifestyle for growth.

“I take organic beef organ and liver supplements for extra iron, energy, and hair growth plus vitamin D 1000 to 3000 IU daily,” she explained.

She also emphasized the importance of getting enough protein and trying to eat healthily mainly.

When it came to reviving her locks, most of the changes she made pertained to her scalp health.

“I have an oily scalp prone to build-up and clogged hair follicles, itchy, flaky if I don’t wash it properly and often enough,” she said.

To combat this, she said she uses a shampoo for oily scalps with salicylic acid.

She makes sure to double shampoo and condition the ends to mid-length locks only.

Another thing she does for her scalp health is give herself massages.

“I was doing rosemary oil massages for years too before it became popular, so I’m getting back into that again now,” she said.

She added that her scalp is oily enough to handle it without being diluted.

“I just pour a few drops into my hands, massage it in, leave for a few hours or overnight, then wash out as normal,” she explained.

Lastly, she applies a scalp tonic to prevent any dandruff from returning after every wash.

“Just massage into damp scalp, and style as usual,” she said.

The original poster wanted to remind people that “everyone’s scalp and hair type is different,” so that should be kept in mind when trying any of her methods.

“But healthy hair requires a healthy scalp first,” she added.

Two additional hair growth aids she uses off and on are bovine collagen powder and probiotics.

“Gut bacteria is linked to your entire system, including scalp microbiome,” she said.

What causes hair loss?

Alexander Armand is a celebrity hairstylist and the creator of hair loss oil Flourish by Alexander Armand.

“Some common causes for hair loss include stress, alopecia, hereditary hair loss, chemical treatments, high tension hairstyles, diet, and certain medications,” Armand told The U.S. Sun.

“Androgenetic Alopecia which is also known as pattern baldness, is the most common cause of hair loss and is a genetic condition that causes hair thinning on the crown and top of the head in women, and thinning and receding hairlines in men.

“Telogen Effluvium is the technical term for a temporary form of hair loss that occurs when a large number of hair follicles enter the resting (telogen) phase due to stress, illness, surgery, childbirth, or major life changes.

“Hair typically grows back within a few months.

“Alopecia Areata is another form of alopecia that is an autoimmune condition where the immune system attacks hair follicles, causing hair loss in patches.

“The severity varies, some people may lose all hair while others may experience regrowth.

“When it relates to your diet, deficiencies in nutrients such as iron, vitamin D, biotin, zinc, and protein can contribute to hair loss.

“Traction alopecia can occur due to tight hairstyles like ponytails, braids, or buns that put stress on the hair follicles.

“Excessive heat styling or chemical treatments can also damage hair.

“Also, certain medications, like chemotherapy drugs, blood thinners, and some antidepressants, can cause hair loss as a side effect.”
