One traveller has revealed that you don’t necessarily need to wait around killing time even if your check-in is later in the day.

There is a chance you could access your room earlier by just showing up and asking.

One savvy holidaymaker has posted the nifty travel hack on X, former Twitter, saying: “Does everyone know you can go into a hotel before check-in time and say “I have a reservation today, is there any chance my room is ready?” and they will usually say sure?”

The trick might not be ground-breaking, but most people won’t even take a chance and ask.

If you’re still worried if it’s worth asking, other travellers have flocked to the post to share their experiences.

One person said: “It’s almost always ready early!”

Another one said: “I did this in London last month. Went to the hotel to drop off my bags in the morning.

“They asked would I like to check in already. I said sure!”

A third person added: “It’s always an option to ask. Even if a room is not ready, you can drop off your luggage and use the facilities.

“If it’s a resort type hotel, they’ll let you use the pool and lounge around while you wait. If it’s a Las Vegas hotel, I find that the room is almost always ready earlier.”

Someone else agreed, saying: “As someone who probably stays in 2-4 different hotels a month, about 80% of the time I show up early, they check me in right away.”

Even if the hotel refuses your request, you can still probably wait in the lounge.

But be careful as some hotels could be charging extra for an early check-in and make sure to confirm first.

A woman has also revealed the best time to check into a hotel to receive a free upgrade.

Samantha Brown has visited at least 62 countries during her career as a TV presenter.

Now she has shared her top tips to make sure every hotel stay goes smoothly.

First, Samantha recommends using your room’s ironing board as a luggage rack, table and counter.

Second, Samantha also suggests soaking a sponge in dish soap before leaving it to dry out.

Then cut the sponge up into smaller chunks which you can use for washing-up on holiday.

If you’re bringing your kids along, Samantha says you can childproof your room with a roll of duct tape – or better still, gaffer tape.

You can also use the tape to block out flashing lights around your room before bedtime.
