Number of Americans filing for jobless benefits highest in 10 months

WASHINGTON, D.C.: The number of Americans filing for jobless benefits rose to its highest level in 10 months last week, a sign that the labor market is cooling off under high interest rates.

For the week ending June 8, unemployment benefit applications rose to 242,000, up from 229,000 the week before, the Labor Department reported. That exceeds the 225,000 new claims analysts expected, the most since August 2023
