Graham Ellis was left beaming when he spotted bottles of red wine in Asda that had been slashed

Thrilled with his finds, Graham took to social media to alert other shoppers, leaving many open-mouthed.

Posting on Yellow sticker shopping tips, tricks and hauls, a private Facebook group with 191,700 members, Graham shared a snap of his huge haul of yellow stickered wine.

Alongside the snap of eight bottles of red wine, the savvy shopper wrote: “I kept going back for more but only after the staff shift change so they didn’t think I was an alcoholic.”

Graham was lucky enough to get his hands on bottles of Cellier des Dauphins Vinsobres, which had been marked down from £11 to just £5.25, saving £5.75 per bottle.

Not only this, but he also picked up a bottle of Plan de Dieu Côtes Du Rhône, which was once priced at £9.50, but had since been slashed to £5.44, saving £4.06.

Graham later confirmed that he found the cheap buys in an Asda store in Dundee.

He described the wine as “class in a glass” and claimed: “Apparently they’re revamping the wine and spirits department.”

Clearly social media users were left open-mouthed at the Facebook post, as it has quickly amassed 314 likes.

Bargain hunters were impressed with Graham’s bargain buys and many took to the comments to express this.

One person said: “I’d have scooped that in one go!”

Another added: “I would have got the lot and probably tripped up on the way out.”

A third commented: “I would have just brought the lot and to hell what anyone thinks of me.”

Whilst someone else wrote: “Great result – cheers.”

When do supermarkets put out yellow-sticker bargains?

The time supermarkets reduce their products vary across stores.

Here’s a rough supermarket-by-supermarket guide:

Aldi

Aldi uses a red sticker to show reductions on fresh products such as bread, meat, fruit and vegetables.

This is when they have reached the last day of shelf life.

Red stickered items are most commonly found at opening and closing times.

M&S

Reduction times can vary from store to store but is most likely to occur near closing time.

Asda

Asda told Which? that yellow stickers are applied twice a day – in the morning and evening.

Co-op

Co-op told The Sun its reduced-to-clear prices are generally applied about four hours before the store closes.

Lidl

Lidl has a similar procedure to Asda and Aldi with reductions twice a day.

However individual stores may opt to reduce prices throughout the day.

Morrisons

Shoppers online have said that Morrisons does the best bargains first thing in the morning.

However, the store told Which? that there are no specific times for yellow sticker price cuts.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s told The Sun it’s at the store manager’s discretion whether to offer discounts.

However, shoppers have reported that the best deals are in the evening from 6pm.

Tesco

Tesco has said there is no specific time for reduction, but again most people found that prices were reduced from 6pm.

Waitrose

As with most of the other stores, Waitrose shoppers have said the best reductions are found before closing.

However the store stated that there is no specific time for yellow stickers to be applied.

Meanwhile, one bargain hunter shared: “In all my life I’ve never seen yellow stickered wine – I obviously live in the wrong area!”

At the same time, one shopper was clearly impressed with Graham’s trick to bag more bottles, as the Facebook user simply penned: “Genius.”
