However, Elle and Michael decided to take that gamble, as they headed from their home in Coventry to Whitley Bay to the infamous claw machine.

They documented their outing in a video on their TikTok page, which began with a shot of the GPS map displaying their 3 hour 42 minute journey.

“We drove four hours to the Jellycat claw machine and look what we won,” they wrote over the top.

Things looked to be going well straight away, as it looked as though they’d won a popcorn toy.

And while the first grab didn’t work, they eventually emerged victorious – with the machine lighting up and flashing as the toy came down the chute.

“Cuteness overload!” Elle wrote of the adorable toy, which usually retails for £28.

Next up was a cute doughnut plushie, which she said Michael “got so lucky”, as he managed to fling it towards the chute.

Their third win was a boba tea – meaning they won three toys in total.

“Ahhhh my new babies,” Elle said as she held the three toys, before putting them on her dashboard.

“The jellycat claw machine was so worth it !!!” the pair captioned the TikTok video.

People were quick to comment on the clip, with one writing: “It baffles me people are travelling 4 hours to come to whitley bay!”

“Aww I never win on these! How much did you spend?” another asked.

To which Elle replied: “We spent £40 and got three !!!!!”

Why are Jellycats so popular?

THEY were made for kids, but Jellycat toys remain incredibly popular with adults too. So just what is the appeal?

The London-based company started making toys in 1999, and enjoyed success from the outset thanks to the fabrics used to make their plushies suitable for children of all ages.

In recent years, they have branched out from making toys of various animals into turning virtually anything you can think of into a Jellycat.

Their vegetable offerings, which range from broccoli to avocado, can help kids eat their greens.

And even their April Fools – a toilet paper toy – was a hit with fans.

Jellycat also has numerous celebrity fans, including Princess Charlotte, with a picture released in 2015 showing the royal with her Fuddlewuddle dog.

The hefty price tag of the toys also promote the idea of luxury, and the value of the toys increases over time – meaning they are often a worthwhile investment.

Jellycat releases two new collections a year – in January and in the summer, in either June or July.

“Apparently if you win one and want one off the back shelf instead you can ask the little money change desks!!” a third commented.

“It would cost you more in fuel than just buying them surely?” someone else questioned.

With Elle responding: “It’s all about the game!”

The couple also shared another video in which they won another two toys – spending £70 in total and leaving with five toys, each of which retails at around £30 each.
