Michigan’s Fastest Track Plays Host to Drag Racing, Car Show, Food and Music~
More than $30,000 in prize money is up for grabs this weekend at Michigan’s fastest track, $10,000 of it earmarked for the those most successful in the featured Quick 32 portion of Imports vs. Domestics “Showdown Michigan” at US 131 Motorsports Park.
The two-day event doubles as a celebration of the Latin car culture with grudge races, audio contests, specialty food vendors, a car and truck show and live music.
Pro 8th and Outlaw 632 titles will be decided on the eighth-mile course with Imports vs. Domestics Quick 32 and three Index classes (8.50, 10.00 and 11.50) all running the standard quarter mile. There also will be racing in an Open Bracket class and a Jr. Dragster class.
David Fallon Jr. of Belleville is expected to defend his Outlaw 632 title. Ryan Sammut of Port Colborne, Ontario, won last year’s Quick 32 championship when Muskegon’s Steve Morris was guilty of a final round foul. Also expected back is David Sherbondy of Laporte, Ind., the only double-up winner ago, and his son, Riley, who was a Jr. Dragster semifinalist in a race won by Alayna Thompson of Grand Haven
Gates open on both Friday and Saturday at 9 a.m. Event times have been altered to run later in the day due to the heat. A Friday test session will run from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and will precede two rounds of qualifying, the first at 7 p.m. and the second qualifier following the first. Another qualifying round, Q3 at 12 noon on Saturday and the final qualifier at 3 p.m. will set the fields for eliminations at 5 p.m. Car show registration will run from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday with a “best of show” reveal at 5 pm.
Adult admission is $25 per day with children 12 and under free when, accompanied by a ticketed adult. VIP motorhome parking is $75 for the weekend, electric pit spots are $100 and VIP car, truck and SUV parking available for $10 daily.
