I fully regret the name we gave our son 11 months ago – people say it sounds like a serial killer

CHOOSING a baby name is tricky, and sometimes parents can live to regret their choice.

This was certainly the case for one mum who decided that she hates her baby son’s name 11 months later and people say it sounds like a “serial killer.”

Taking to Reddit, she opened up about her child’s unusual moniker.

She wrote: “So I had my son almost 11 months ago and we named him Karver McClain. “Before I ever even got pregnant I decided on the name McClain. 

“I don’t even remember where I heard the name but I know that I immediately fell in love with the name. 

“My baby’s father didn’t feel the same way though, so we compromised and made it his middle name instead which was okay to me at the time because I couldn’t for the life of me think of a middle name that would sound good with it.”

The woman revealed that it was her mother who was reading through a list of names and discovered the moniker “Karver.”

She continued: “I heard it loved it and so did his dad. 

“I thought it looked dumb with a C so we spelt it K and we put it on the birth certificate.

“ We felt fine about it but fast forward a few months later and I start second guessing it. 

“I asked for opinions on the name in a baby name facebook group and got over 80 responses, all bad. 

“Several people said that it was a perfect name for a serial killer and others told me that they’d hate their mum forever if she named them Karver. 

“Others are just telling me it’s horrible.

“I guess what I’m asking is should we start calling him by his middle name? 

“Is it too late for that now that he’s almost one and knows his name? 

“Is his name as bad as everyone says?”

Many people confirmed her fears and said they weren’t sure about the name either.

One wrote: “I think Karver gives serial killer due to the association with knives and carving.”

A second agreed: “Karver is atrocious and McClain isn’t any better either. Seriously just rename the kid.”

However, one reasoned: “I think if you still love the name then that’s his name. But stop hurting your own feelings by asking strangers for feedback.”

Many people suggested she slightly tweak the name to be “Carter”, instead of “Karver.”

One person commented: “Karver is pretty bad, imo. What about Carter? It’s very close to Karver.”

Another shared: “Carter McClain is fun to say.”

And a third wrote: “Totally agree. I don’t love Carter but its lightyears better than Karver.”
