I’m an interior designer and you must never try to style your window sill – it makes your home look cluttered and cr*p
AN interior designer has revealed the decor trend she can’t stand.
So if you want your home to impress, you’ll need to listen up (and prepare to be attacked).
An interior designer has revealed the spot in her home that she would never decorate[/caption] On a recent podcast episode with Jojo Barr and Pollyanna Wilkinson Jojo shared her thoughts on a variety of interior trends[/caption] When it comes to windowsills, Jojo explained that in her opinion, decor in this particular place looks cluttered and c**p[/caption] She simply said “for me, it’s a no”[/caption]Particularly if you’ve got pictures, plants and more on your windowsill – you may want to have a re-think if you want your home to be interior pro approved.
On a recent episode of The Ins & Outs podcast, Jojo Barr, an interior design expert of House Nine Design and Pollyanna Wilkinson, landscape design guru of Pollyanna Wilkinson Garden Design, discussed all things interiors.
With 23 years of combined experience, in the Ask Us Anything episode, the experts shared their thoughts on homeware trends, and also shared some useful advice.
When it comes to ceiling fans, Jojo beamed: “I absolutely think ceiling fans can be sexy.”
However, Jojo revealed the mistake you must avoid – and if you don’t, you run the risk of your home looking dated.
Jojo added: “The only thing is, don’t get one that has a light in it, because they tend to look a bit naff and dated.”
Another interior trend that Jojo can’t stand is having decorative objects or plants on windowsills.
The pro explained: “I don’t like them. I’ve got a real strong dislike for things on windowsills.
“I see a window as an opening of an eye, it wants to be open.
“When you suddenly clutter it with cr*p, like picture frames and pots and things, it just feels so over cluttered.
“I just think your window is where light comes in, it’s like a picture frame, it would be like sticking things all over a picture frame.
“For me, it’s a no.”
Trends interior designers hate
IF you want to ensure that your home looks glam, here are the trends that interior designers can't stand.
NO YELLOW: According to Bilal Rehman, yellow paint in a bedroom is a big no no.
He said: “If you want everyone to know you’re a horse girl then yellow is perfect for you.”
SIGN OFF: Kelly Hoppen shared her honest thoughts on Live, Love, Laugh signs.
The interior pro explained: “Another gripe of mine – Live, Laugh, Love – those kinds of wooden things that sit on book shelves and floating shelves, that’s so 10, 12, 15 years ago.”
NO GREY YAY: Julie Provenzano explained that grey interiors have been overdone.
She stressed: “We took a good thing and we overdid it to the point that it now feels copy, paste, basic.”
Jojo then advised listeners: “Actually, if you have got a windowsill that’s covered in stuff – a little test for you – take everything off and take a step back and tell me it doesn’t look better.”
Not only this, but if you’ve got kids and want to ensure that your little darling’s toys aren’t ruining the aesthetic of your home, Jojo shared her top tip.

She explained: “Baskets are my number one thought.”
She also advised: “If you’re starting from scratch, build a media unit and the lower half of the media unit, either have little cupboards that you can chuck all your toys in and close the cupboards, or have an open-fronted media unit, where the lower half has baskets that you can bung all your stuff in.
“Get the kids to do it, that’s what I do.
