Google to invest another $2.3 billion in Ohio data centers

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- Google's investments in Ohio are getting even bigger.

The company announced on Tuesday they will invest an additional $2.3 billion in existing data centers in the state towards the continued innovation of Google Cloud services and AI. With Tuesday's announcement, Google's investments in Ohio projects has topped over $5 billion since 2019.

Google's data centers in Columbus, Lancaster, and New Albany will receive additional investments. "Data centers are essential to our digital lives and Google's additional multibillion dollar investment further establishes central Ohio as an important tech hub in America," wrote Lt. Gov. Jon Husted in a statement.

The announcement was made Tuesday morning at Google's data center on Lockbourne Road in Columbus. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty was joined by congressmen Troy Balderson and Mike Carey along with Ohio Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted.

Google investments into new projects in Ohio began with breaking ground on a New Albany data center in 2019 worth $600 million. The massive technology corporation also announced construction of additional centers in Columbus and Lancaster to the tune of $1 billion, acquiring 618 acres of land to do so.

Last year the company announced an additional $1.7 billion into technical infrastructure across Ohio data canters and advancement in AI innovations and Google Cloud services.
