Drug smuggler cries out: Me dead

by Sandra Downes

“Oh Gawd, me dead!”

That was the cry of Jamaican Kenseisha Diana Wray yesterday after learning she will have to pay for trying to smuggle $25 000 worth of ganja into Barbados last Friday.

Wray, 39, from Grey Street, Bailey’s Vale, Port Maria, St Mary, pleaded guilty to four charges in the District “B” Magistrates’ Court, sitting at the Eric Holder Jr Municipal Complex in St Joseph. They were possession of cannabis, trafficking, intent to supply and importation, all on June 14 at Grantley Adams International Airport.

Prosecutor Constable Tammisha Knight told the court the woman entered Barbados on a flight from Jamaica around 1:30 p.m. After passing through Immigration, she was referred for a follow-up investigation of her luggage. When customs officers searched her suitcase they found a haversack inside among her clothing. Two taped packages were found in its back section.

The packages were inspected and police were summoned. During an interview with lawmen, Wray admitted knowing about the drugs but could not say who was supposed to receive them once she arrived. (SD)
