Topeka Juneteenth parade postponed to fall

TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Topeka Family And Friends Juneteeth Celebration has been postponed to the fall due to impending weather conditions.

"Due to impending weather conditions, we regret to inform you that the Juneteenth parade will need to be rescheduled for the fall," Topeka Family and Friends wrote on social media. "We are committed to ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all participants and attendees, and this decision is made with those priorities in mind."

Topeka Family and Friends said they will keep the public notified of rescheduling developments and dates.

June 19, 1865, was the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas. This officially freed all the slaves in the United States which is why the holiday is celebrated on that day.
