City of Emporia announces new fire station

EMPORIA (KSNT) - On Tuesday, the City of Emporia announced it had found a location to construct a new fire station to meet the needs of the community.

In 2015, the City of Emporia conducted a study to determine the site of a new fire station. The city considered size, proximity to public parking, single-family dwellings, utility availability, street access and compliance with zoning requirements.

"This location fulfills many of the desired site and fire department considerations," the City of Emporia wrote in the press release. "Therefore, the City and Fire Department have made the decision to proceed with the construction of the new fire station at this location."

The site was narrowed down to three locations based on land cost and proximity to the current fire station. A location on the 500 block of Market Street was determined to be the best choice.

"The City of Emporia and the Fire Department would like to express their gratitude to the community for their support and patience throughout this process. The construction of the new fire station marks a significant investment in public safety and underscores the City's commitment to ensuring the highest level of emergency response services," officials said in the press release.
