Joy-Anna Duggar reveals she rushed 1-year-old son to the ER after ‘terrifying’ choking moment

Joy-Anna Forsyth (née Duggar) and her husband, Austin Forsyth, had a “terrifying” incident with their 1-year-old son, Gunner, recently.

In a YouTube video posted June 14, she recalled the moment when her youngest child choked and had to be taken to the hospital. Joy-Anna Forsyth said she gave Gunner some ham and he “bit off more than he could chew and immediately started choking.”

The couple were about “an hour away from the hospital,” she said, but thankfully her husband is an EMT and helped with the situation.

“I just handed Gunner to Austin and I started crying,” she said. “All those what-ifs come to your mind right away. He threw up multiple times, still hadn’t thrown up the ham and was gagging and was not breathing for, like, 20 seconds.”

Gunner was able to take “some shallow breaths,” she said, “but was still struggling.” They decided to head to the hospital to make sure he was OK.

However, there were a couple times when Gunner stopped breathing during the drive.

“I was just crying out to God, like, please save him,” she said, adding that she thought she was going to “lose one of my kids.”

Adding, “That thought of, ‘He is going to die’ came to my mind, and it was terrifying.”

With tears coming down her face, she said that he started breathing regularly and felt like his condition wasn’t “as life-threatening” as they thought before.

Once they got to the hospital, they did X-rays to make sure there wasn’t anything stuck in his throat. Thankfully, she said, everything was clear.

“After something like that, I feel like you just really hug your babies a little bit tighter,” she said.

The former “Counting On" stars, who got married in May 2017, are parents to three children.

Joy-Anna Forsyth previously revealed that she suffered a miscarriage in June 2019.
